What is the difference between a ceramic and a glass casserole dish?
I want to make baked macaroni and cheese as a side dish for Thanksgiving. Does one cook faster than the other? Or are they the same?
They are about the same. Remember ceramic is actually a type of glass and they work the same way by absorbing the heat like a sponge. Also it might be worth consideration that some of the white ceramic looking Corningware vessels are actually made of opaque white glass.
Shape will be a more important factor than material with these two choices. For mac and cheese try a round or oval which will eliminate dry corners. I like an opaque dish, whether it's ceramic or glass, because it doesn't show scratches. Of course this is not an issue if have a new clear dish.
