Investing in Comic Books

In a tough economy, we find ourselves looking to make a buck. We act like superheroes trying to fight this volatile economy. Well, why not look to the superheroes themselves? Comic books make for a great investment. They are lucrative and can be worth a lot of money. However, investing in comic books may not bring a big payoff right away. It can take fifteen to twenty years for a comic book to be valuable. Who would’ve thought that a childhood pastime would make you some money, and at the same time you get to have fun while purchasing comic books that bring some joy into your life.

Comic books are rising in value because of the increased popularity of them. Hollywood producers are making recognizable comic books heroes the stars of their movies. For people who are not familiar with the characters, they soon find themselves becoming more interested in them. Or people are reminded of characters they loved as a kid after seeing movies such as Ironman, Wonderwoman, and Superman. They are inspired to buy the comics after watching the movie.

Investing in comic books requires some work and dedication from the collector. They keep their value when they are in good condition and stored properly. There is also researched involved. How popular is the comic, what is the initial cost, what is the current value, how rare is the comic? You also have to decide what type of collector you want to be. There are different types of ways to be an investor for comics.

Investors simply care about the bottom line. They don’t have an emotional side attached with the comics and look to see how much money they can make from selling the comics. Another form of the investor is the person out to make some quick cash. This comic collector buys and sells in bulk tying to make fast money. Usually they are selling the most popular comics, not rarities. The EBay investor is closely related to the person trying to make some fast cash. They auction off their comic books on EBay. Usually they read the comics first and then sell them to get money back, but of course at a higher rate. Unlike the other investors they enjoy reading the comics and have some emotional attachment. Excitement not only comes from the comic but also the auctioning off of the book. Another type of investor simply looking at the bottom line is the inheritor. There is no sentimental value for the comics that were passed on to them. They want to get rid of the comics, but at the same time make a profit.

On the other hand, there are the emotional types of investors. To these types of people, there is sentimental value to the comics and they invest, trade, and purchase comics with value. The reader has the comics for their traditional purpose, reading. They don’t care about preserving the comic and enjoy the superheroes come to life as they read through the colorful pages of a comic. A step down from the reader is the part time reader. They enjoy comics but pick up and leave the hobby when it suits them. Last but not least, are the obsessive collectors. They dream, live, and breathe comic books. They categorize their comics, preserve the comics, and are the go-to guys for comic information.

Investing in comics has its rewards. Those rewards come in the form of money, joy, or excitement. Which collector are you and will you invest in comic books?

Collectors Book

The future is here for Old Books

What is an old book?

The origin of the word is derived from ancient old word that simply refers to something that is old, and a younger age. It is the most common use, which may refer to One who studies or collects or offers antiques, or can be used as an adjective to describe the object itself. For example, a collector of antique lamps, could be called an antique, in general, or a collector of antique lamp so that the witness himself could be called an antique lamp.

For the purposes of this section, a book is nothing but an old antique or antiques, books.

If you ask 100 people at what age a particular object is an old and probably get 100 different answers. Exactly what is equal to the first debate.

When a book has become a very old? I've seen books published in 1950, which is presented as an antique, however, seems to me that too much current for an antique. In my opinion, if a book is part of current history, life, it should not be considered an old book. Of course, my life story could be different from the history of the life of another person, then .. the debate continues. (Of course, I am biased here because I do not like the idea of something, anything, to be classified as an antiquity, which was new in my own life.)

For purposes of this essay, I somewhat arbitrarily decided on a book is an old book when it was published before 1923. In the year 2008, which would be about 85 years. This date coincides with the copyright eliminates usually the protection of copyright of books published before 1923. Because protection is outdated book, I imagine it must be old, and antiquities.

This does not mean there are no old books of 1922. There are many, I'm sure. For me, depend object. For example, a documentary book on astronomy would be obsolete, and the right to be called old books, while being not a work of fiction.

A distinction must be drawn between books that are collecting, antiquarian books in general. Library Books are not necessarily old books. The first editions, signed editions, rare books, often far from being old enough to be called antiques.

Old books library books may also, however, for a variety of reasons, but simply gathering by being old. Like many antiques, their value is in the eye of the beholder. To understand its value, or even the desire to have antique in itself is not well understood if you do like to have antiques.

In general, books, antiquities are not really own practice for antiques. They are usually difficult because of his age, and often are not really suitable for reading by himself. The Most are designed to sit on a shelf, and be loved by the owner. In some cases, require special treatment, and the storage environment to maintain their condition and prevent further deterioration. Clearly, this book asks expensive.

If you have a very old book, probably did not sit and read for fear of destroying the book, are not strong enough to read. I speak from experience. I have several books that are more than 200 years of only occasional use, I would destroy if I had to sit and read.

Same condition of a book so good old days old with strong binding and pages, wear quickly when opened and read. Pages tear easily when you are approaching 85 years old mark. A book in poor condition, as might have been a library copy are exhausted much faster.

Antique worth reading?

It is really the subject of another essay in itself, however, little time, many old books are still valid sources of information and enjoyment. Many of our classic fiction books are old books. They have been reprinted and repackaged in a more modern form. Many works of fiction are in the public domain, namely the protection of copyright has expired, as publishers are free to reproduce, and sold as new. And many have been digitized and are available to other devices such as electronic books, namely books for reading on the computer, and miscellaneous.

Non-fiction books are less likely to be replicated, but many have been played. It depends on the issue. For example, the books of history, America has been, with subjects such as history of civil war or the First World War, etc., would be ancient history books to be reprinted or recycled. From the history of war does not change the information provided by the old books are as good as a book later. A good example is the ancient books of Civil War through the camera, Henry Elson. The fact is that today many history books are heavily dependent on old books as resources.

Generally, old books that are intended to reproduce more general public use rather than for students. For example, I am a history buff, the particular history of America and American history was, but I'll read almost anything that is non-fiction that fits my interests. In my opinion, many of these books could serve as textbook suitable for students, with a substantial saving in costs, however, are largely ignored by educators.

The present and future Old books.

In my opinion, now, old books, are an excellent investment if it were published before 1923. Many of these books are in high demand by collectors, and publishers who want to use for commercial purposes, such the reprint and sell, or the production of films, or the creation of electronic books etc.

In the past, the laws of copyright have been revised, new books have fallen into the public domain every day. Now, because of copyright protections will be reviewed some books to incorporate new public domain for many years to come.

This is not absolute, some books in the public domain, but because of the complexity of the laws, you need to research each case by case, the point is, before the revision of laws, many other books that came in the public domain on a regular basis, which has not resumed until about 95 years after 1923, about 2017.

More old books and others are being scanned, and the format, and therefore available to the general public. The digitization of ancient books, to namely the creation of electronic books, offers many advantages such as:

1) The cost and availability. Old books are harder to find or rare.
2) You can actually read them, can not be destroyed by its use.
3) Obviously, not run down or degraded over time.
4) They are easy to store.
5) Your information is still valid.
6) The original version of the printed book can be improved with multimedia effects modern.
7) The readability is higher, and the publication can be colored, and soundful, printable, and bookmarkable, and research. Can slideshows and include music, and video and audio, and can include information and resources.

The cost of a eBook, and either old or recent, can vary considerably. There are many old books are free. Others, while not free, they are still well below the cost that most books printed.

Of course, there are always disadvantages ebooks. For example, you Need a computer or some type of electronic device to read the ebook. If your eBook is designed for a computer, then you must read on a PC or laptop. Unless you have a laptop, it would be difficult to sit in your chair and enjoy your ebook.

There portable electronic devices for reading electronic books. Some are designed specifically for e-books, while others are more generic personal devices. They are practical because they can go where you go, as a printed book. These are not laptops, and have all the capabilities of an ebook on computer, therefore, are only appropriate for certain types of publications, for example, a work of fiction would be a good candidate because it is just text. In my opinion, a serious drawback is the size of the text, and readability.

Publications ebook on computer books are more appropriate with enhanced multimedia capabilities, rather than publications in the text. For example, a publication of the 100 images can include slide shows, and legends, music, videos, audio, etc. While handheld devices are more suitable for applications in text mode such as novels or news, contracts, etc.

I am sure that in the future will sound an electronic device that has all the capabilities a multimedia computer, packed into a device that is easily accessible while sitting in your favorite chair, or sitting in an airplane, etc.

========

As mentioned above, a great advantage to have an old book in eBook format is that you can actually read the book without damaging or destroying the book. And the e-book is kept for many years to come, you will never have to worry about fading message or curling, or damage, etc.

I am a history buff, a student life, love reading of history. When I read the history books, I study the associated images, and illustrations and photographs, etc. can Ebooks as easily, and the text is easier to read, and I can go to related images / photos, with captions, and then easily return to the text.

I can make as many pages as I want and come back another time. And I can word search of the publication, and then jump to a desired page, a researcher or a student might find this useful tool. And then, once found, the information can be printed easily, which is a very useful feature for the researcher.

The future is heretical Old Books

The future is here, and brilliant old books. I do not think it's outrageous that one day, all the books ever printed will be digitized and thus become easily accessible to anyone who has access to our database Knowledge more.

I image that many of these books will be translated into other languages, opening a new source old books for the masses.

The era of computing and digitization and creation of electronic books has extended the lives of all books ever written, and become an important resource for the future.

Digitization of ancient books is the Gutenberg press of the current era.

The End
