Some people complain that corned beef and cabbage or green beer aren't authentic Irish customs. Yet, it's these Americanized symbols that brought 8 million Americans to Dublin in March 2009. In many ways, the American celebration, with festivities like a pub crawl and the St. Patrick's Day parade, have been brought back to Ireland as a way to drum up tourism, exchange cultural ideas and modernize. The annual St. Patrick's Day parade in Dublin, Ireland "features highly original and inventive street theatrical troupes, artists, giant puppetry, dancers and marching bands from Ireland and across the globe," says Dublin Tourism. These events are free of charge and offer something for everyone, whether you're old or young, Irish or another ethnicity, a local or a tourist. Last year, the Guinness Storehouse celebrated its 250th year of brewing and, in celebration, hosted 250 performers. The 2009 parade route spanned two hours featuring the theme "The Sky Is The Limit."
