New Biodegradable Tableware
It has to be said that we live in a rather wasteful society. Close to 20mil cups, plates and other utensils are disposed of every day in the UK and US, causing a vast amount of unprocessable landfill. We obviously need our tableware and no one is suggesting that we look into alternative ways of eating or socialising, but surely there is a more ‘green’ alternative? Well, the problem may have already been solved by a new company in Richmond.
They have developed a complete range of biodegradable and compostable tableware that can be used in exactly the same way as ordinary products. The can be rinsed out easily and do not harbour bacteria. However, when you come to throw them away, they can be placed in composters or buried and will break down naturally over time.
The business has been commended by government and by green organizations, and it has already picked up a number of awards. Their latest award came from a company that helps new, ethically motivated businesses find their feet. The company is called New Visions and run not-for-profit.
$2500 was included in the award and the company say it has been earmarked for new product developments. They already make over 20 different pieces, including cups, plates, cutlery and straws. They are looking into making more utensils such a bottle opener and more detailed pieces like designer cheese knives
The person who started the company, Jocelyn Tice as already clearly stated her intentions for the new products to be available in every country. "the benefits are simply limitless" she claimed. We will help save the world by not having to constantly find new places to dump these items, but everyone's finances will benefit also.
Additional to her newest tableware concepts, Jocelyn is now researching products from various industry sectors with the hope of applying the technology there also. She has also been approached by a number of larger companies who are interested in incorporating her products into their own table and glassware
