Old Colony Elder Services is working with the Guild Charities of Brockton
Dateline: Plymouth County and Avon, Easton and Stoughton, MA ...
Old Colony service to seniors (OCES) has recently announced its collaboration with the Guild Charities of Brockton in the development of a new program called "food special for special people. "
The objective of the "special food for special people" of the program is distribute food for special dietary elderly at home who suffer from common diseases in this age group. Many can not pay for specialty items with limited incomes and costs of food.
OCES help the outreach program and education initiatives and the Guild of Charity to provide food and volunteers to provide food for special people seniors in their homes. The Guild of charities recently received a grant from the Howard Home, which enabled them to develop and implement food "for special people Special" program.
"We are delighted to partner with Old Colony service seniors on this project. There was a high priority for us. The "special meal for its" Special People gives us the opportunity to achieve people in the community. Now we can go to those who can not come to us, "said Nancy Gustafson, president of Charity Guild board of directors.
How does it work?
A nurse and a dietitian OCES needs assessment of a senior. Then the nurse and dietitian to consult with the priest about the disease and prevention and the vital role nutrition plays in good overall health. OCES educates and empowers and seniors (and their caregivers) into the jack nutrition and food requirements in relation to specific health problems. Once the assessment, education and training have been completed, the Guild of Charity offers special delivery and food to the elderly at home.
"Now people elderly at home are able to get the nutrients that are specific to the disease that would otherwise not be able to obtain. This program is essential for elderly people who suffer from diseases that could benefit from a special regime, "said Diana DiGiorgio, Executive Director of OCES.
